poem-church-faith-pain-heartbreak-growth

just a passing thought.

A poem that reflects on one of my first times back in church after returning home from my study abroad experience.

02/2019

The battle of two worlds commences in the pews.

Singing praises of songs that I once knew.

The blank stares and ominous hymns sink underneath my deep skin.

The right foot plants firm while the left turns to run.

The pastor plays games and makes Satan seem fun.

I stand in the church feeling surrounded and alone.

Pressured by expectation of flesh, soul, and bone.
